April 23, 2022

Good Morning Parents and Guardians,

End of Course Milestone Testing went extremely well last week.  We will continue testing Monday with Biology, Tuesday with Coordinate Algebra and Wednesday with US History.  As a reminder, Georgia Milestone Testing is a Face-to-Face assessment, meaning that scholars must take the exam on campus.   Parents of Flex Academy Scholars can send/bring them to school on the designated test day to take the exam.  The exam schedule is on the homepage of the school’s website.   All exams will be administered in the morning and will end around noon.  Parents of Flex Academy Scholars must pick them up immediately after testing.  Scholars are to bring their charged Chromebook that is charged to testing each day.

Seniors parent and scholars remember that the signed Transportation and Media Release forms that were discussed during our Virtual Parent Meeting are due Monday, April 25th.  The forms can be found on the homepage of the website.

Please continue to have your scholars govern their afterschool time by their clock or watch and not by the amount of sunlight left in the day.  Scholars often lose track of time by staying out until the sun sets, which is much later.  This throws off their designated study time at home and their preparation for the next school day.

Finally, please come support our band department by coming out to Rhythm & Blew 2.0, Saturday, April 30th @ 5:01 pm here at Stephenson High School.  This event will encompass a Jazz concert, vendor sales and a silent auction event.  Go to our website to see the flyer for more information and ticket prices.

Enjoy the remainder of your weekend and remember our theme, Jaguars “ALL IN” G2G Geared To Greatness.

The school district in collaboration with OCHS, Our Community Healthcare Systems, is still offering free oral weekly COVID-19 Testing.  Please go  to homepage of our school’s website to the Weekly COVID Testing Banner and scan the QR Code to register.

Begin checking your scholar’s district issued Chromebook.  Check first to see if they know where their device is located.  Then, have them turn the device on so that you check to make sure that it is working properly and then check for any damage.  If you find either, the device not working properly or the device being damage, have your scholar to see Dr. Thomas when they get to school Monday.  Remember parents, these devices are the sole responsibility of your scholar.

As we go into Daylight Savings Time, continue to have our scholars govern their day afterschool time by their clock or watch and not by the amount of sunlight left in the day.  During this time of the year scholars often lose track of time by staying out until the sun sets, which is much later.  This throws off their designated study time at home, their preparation for the next day and causes them to go to bed later than usual.

Thank you, enjoy the remainder of your weekend and remember our theme, Jaguars, ALL IN, G2G Geared to Greatness.

Scholars will return to face to face learning, Monday, January 10, 2022.

In order for us to continue with face to face learning scholars must continue to follow the 5 mitigation strategies we have established here at the Stephenson High School.  These mitigation strategies are:

  • Consistent and correct use of mask – wearing mask over both nose and mouth
  • Social distancing to the largest extent possible
  • Handwashing
  • Cleaning and disinfecting
  • Contact tracing in collaboration with the DeKalb Board of Health.

These 5 mitigation strategies should also be followed while scholars are away from campus to ensure the safety of all.  Continue to make sure your scholar has their mask and talk with them about the importance of adhering to these 5 mitigation strategies.
